Local organization in Morrisania helping the needy in their community

A recent study shows many Bronx residents are having a hard time putting food on the table. In response, a local organization in Morrisania is trying to help the needy in their community.

The Black Forum of Morrisania held a free food giveaway Sunday morning to help Bronx residents in need. Volunteers say they gave out more than 1,600 bags of food and supplies, and they say demand outweighed the supply.

Inside the bag, residents received a vegetable, protein and a starch. The bag also included soap, shampoo and other hygienic products. Residents say every little bit helps them tremendously.

The Black Forum of Morrisania says on Thursday, they will open a permanent food pantry, which they say will help the needs of the community on a more consistent basis. The food pantry will be located at 576 East 165th Street.
