Bronx priest may be banned from ministry after sexual abuse charges

There are reports that Monsignor Charles Kavanagh, accused of having sexual relations with a seminary student about 20 years ago, has been barred from returning to St. Raymond's Church in the Bronx. Cardinal Edward Egan reportedly met with Kavanagh and several other priests accused of sexual abuse and told most of them that they were banished from the ministry. Kavanagh was suspended last year when allegations of sexual abuse surfaced. A spokesman for the Archdiocese of New York would not confirm the report. The spokesperson did say the names of any banished priests would appear in the newspaper 'Catholic New York' once their cases are complete.
