The Bronx Zoo celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

The Bronx Zoo is honoring the Latin roots of the borough with Hispanic Heritage Weekend.Thousands of people headed to the zoo to take advantage of the special activities celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. Children on Saturday had face painting and got to make arts and crafts. Animals indigenous to Central and South America were also featured.Vendors gave out food samples of everything from salami to corn snacks since the event was sponsored by EPPA Food Service Corporation. New York Yankee fans got an extra treat as former pitcher Luis Tiant signed autographs for free.EPPA said its company is taking note of the buying power of the Latino community. It said it wants to expose itself to the fastest growing population in the Northeast.Event organizers said they expect 20,000 people to attend over the weekend.
