Yankees make for seasonal economy in the Bronx
In the midst of another exciting pennant race, dedicated Yankee fans camped out in front of the stadium box office for playoff tickets. But those same fans are not likely to spend quite so much time in the borough once the season is over, and it has a significant effect on the local economy. When the baseball season ends, many shops near the stadium board up for the winter. For these small businesses, staying open during the off-season isn't worth it.Back in February during the state of the borough address, the Bronx borough president's vision for the area around the stadium included a convention center, a Yankee museum and a hotel for visitors. The hope is that fans would stay in the area longer rather than simply stopping by for the game, thereby helping to boost the area's economy.
