Then and Now: A look at Little Italy

Little Italy is an area that's known for its Italian traditions and authentic cuisine.

In this week's Then and Now, News 12 The Bronx's Jenny Mayer takes a look at Little Italy, a historic community located in Belmont.

More than a century ago, Italian immigrants settled in Belmont. The area of Little Italy, which extends from Arthur Avenue to the world famous retail and culinary district, is known for its fresh fish, homemade pasta and fresh mozzarella.

Many stores in Little Italy still use traditional methods to create their products. At the Arthur Avenue Retail Market you can find a blend of old and new traditions. The store opened in the 1940's and once housed the pushcart vendors that lined the streets of Arthur Avenue.

These days, the streets of Little Italy are home not only to people of Italian decent but also to people of many different cultures.
