Crossing guard added to busy intersection after PS/IS 194 parents complained

PS/IS 194 parents got results after expressing their safety concerns to school officials.

Parents with students attending school at the new PS/IS 194 say one detail was left out when the building was constructed--the safety of their kids. The school is located in a commercial area so parents met with school officials to discuss the possibility of having a crossing guard for their children. Now, a guard has been placed at the intersection where parents had asked for one. Although there is still no crossing guard in front of the school, a police officer is stationed there to help kids cross the street.

Parents say they are happy to see a crossing guard and police officer helping their kids get to school safely but add that they would still like to see more done. The addition of speed bumps and a traffic light in front of the school are two of the things parents would like to see happen. For now, the Department of Transportation says it is considering those options and plans to have an answer by the end of October.
