New York's community college tuition the highest in the nation
Students attending community colleges in New York are paying a hefty price for education.
Last year, New York State raised tuition at community colleges by 7 percent, making the cost of college the highest in the nation. According to a new survey by the American Association of Community Colleges, an average community college in New York costs more than $3,500 for a full course load, which is about $200 more than last year and nearly double the national average.
To help offset the tuition increase, the city allocated $4.5 million in financial assistance. City Council Speaker Gifford Miller says officials want to keep people connected to economic empowerment and opportunity.
Students having trouble paying for tuition are urged to speak with someone at their schools' financial aid office.
