Push to turn the Grand Concourse back into a residential area

Bronx residents have mixed opinions over plans for the Grand Concourse.

The Department of Buildings is pushing to make the Grand Concourse into what it once was--a residential neighborhood. The department conducted a grand sweep of the Concourse and issued 180 violations to building owners for using residential property for commercial use.

Residents are divided on the issue. Some say the stores should stay because they are in walking distance and it's convenient. But others say the businesses need to go. Business owners say they are worried that they may be forced to close.

Before any stores can be closed a hearing must be held. Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion Jr. told News 12 The Bronx he is concerned about the welfare of business owners and plans to meet with them to address their concerns.
