Residents rally to halt closure of psychiatric center

Residents got together Thursday to speak out against a plan to shut the Bronx Psychiatric Center. Earlier this year, Governor Pataki (R-NY) decided to shut down the Bronx center and the Children's Psychiatric Hospital, citing a lack of state money to keep them up and running. There is heavy opposition to the plan in the Bronx. Many residents and lawmakers rallied at the psychiatric center to voice their opinions.Residents are trying to find ways to reverse the governor's decision. The City Council has already voted against Pataki's plan to close both locations. Many in the Bronx argue the governor did not get input from the community before making his decision. If the two locations close, the Bronx would be the only borough without a mental health facility.
