Bronx families learn about fire prevention and safety

Home Depot teamed up with the New York City Fire Department Saturday to educate families in The Bronx about fire prevention and safety. The event aimed to teach safety tips through arts and crafts and hands-on experience. There was a mock fire safety house to simulate the feeling of being in a dark smoky room and what should be done. The fire department said that preparation is the key to prevention. They also told Bronx residents to keep matches and lighters away from children, never leave an open flame unattended and to install smoke detectors that are checked regularly. The event is part of Fire Prevention Week, which runs until next Saturday.National Fire Prevention Association
