Bronx motels shut down for criminal activities

On the heels of the Alps Hotel being closed down by police last year, two more "hot sheet" motels have been forced to shut down. The closings of the Andrea and Holiday motels were the result of a year-long investigation by a task force. Two women were arrested at the motels for prostitution. In addition to prostitution, the motels were also said to be sites for gun trafficking and other criminal activity. The quick-stay motels were of concern to Bronx residents because they said what was going on inside the rooms often spilled outside to the streets. Father Richard Gorman said one could see trucks lined up being solicited by prostitutes and sex acts going on inside cars or trucks. The owners of the motels are scheduled to attend hearings next week regarding the shutdown. A judge could decide to keep the motels closed for up to a year. The task force said it is still looking into 13 other motels.
