New health profiles issued for each Bronx neighborhood

(10/05/03) THROGS NECK - New York City Health Department officials have compiled new profiles on each Bronx neighborhood. These reports have shed light on the leading illnesses and causes of death in each community.

According to the data, the leading causes of death in the South Bronx, for instance, are diabetes and aids, especially in Mott Haven and Highbridge. The South Bronx also has the highest rate of smoking adults in the entire city. As a result, the city opened a public health office to address these problems.
