New 911 global tracking system now available throughout the city

A new 911 global tracking system for cell phone users is now in place. The system is designed to help police track the exact location of a 911 call made from a cell phone.

The call for a global tracking system came after four teens drowned off the coast of City Island, despite trying to call 911 from a cell phone. Parents of the four boys lobbied for the system and now it has been implemented statewide.

Verizon Wireless is the first company to offer the tracking system. It's available on 20 Verizon cell phone models.
