Private bus line workers' jobs in jeopardy

Many private bus lines, some of which operate in the Bronx, are in danger of shutting down as talks between the private bus companies, the city and the MTA have slowed. For some time, it has been reported that private bus lines in the city were in the process of being taken over by the MTA. While this may still happen, negotiations have slowed down, and employees of these bus lines could lose their jobs if the city does not reauthorize its contract with these companies.Lawyers for the private lines filed a $10 million lawsuit last week, but that may not be enough. If a deal is not worked out before the end of the year, buses might stop rolling on January 1, leaving bus workers without a job and many Bronx residents without a ride.
