High School of American Studies celebrates opening of new facility

The High School of American Studies finally has a new building to call home.

In its second year, the school celebrated the opening of a new building located at a former storage facility for Lehman College. The school originally shared space on the Lehaman campus, but now it has a space of its own.

The High School of American Studies is one of three selective competitive high schools that have a CUNY affiliation. Students must take a test to get into the school. While all subjects are taught at the school, there is a specific focus on American Studies and Liberal Arts. Both teachers and students say it is one of the best schools in the Bronx.

Only freshmen and sophomore students currently attend the school. The school's first graduation will take place in 2006.
