Bronx residents unhappy another hotel is opening at the former Alps Hotel site

Bronx residents are not in favor of the Howard Johnson Hotel moving into the area.

Construction is underway to bring a Howard Johnson Hotel to the former site of the Alps Hotel and residents are anything but happy. The Alps Hotel was known as a hot sheet motel because of the number of felony arrests made at the location. Due to the arrests and problems with drugs and prostitution, the borough president shut down the Alps Hotel more than a year ago.

And now that another hotel is moving in, residents say there's nothing to stop the new business from becoming another hot sheet motel. Residents feel the area would have been better served by having a day care center or a senior housing complex move into the building.

Since Howard Johnson Hotel has been criticized, a public hearing was held Thursday night and residents had the opportunity to voice their concerns.
