25 Bronx schools get face-lift on 'New York Cares' Day
(10/18/03) THE BRONX - Dozens of Bronx residents and people from outside the borough spent their Saturday cleaning up 25 Bronx schools.
Students, parents, teachers and private companies volunteered as part of "New York Cares" Day. Program officials work with the department of education selecting schools for cleanups each year. Students at C.S. 61 painted and did some gardening to better their school. The principal at the school says this event gives people a chance to give back to their community.
Designer Ralph Lauren, who went to M.S. 80, was at his alma mater cleaning up and painting, as well.
