Bronx bike riders gear up for 9th annual 'Tour de Bronx'

(10/18/03) FORDHAM - Bronx bicycle riders are gearing up for the ninth annual "Tour de Bronx" on Sunday. It is the largest free bike tour in the state. So far, 1,500 people have registered to ride. Riders can register at any of the four starting points for either a 25 or 40-mile tour.

It is not too late to get involved. Here are the check-in times and locations:1. 8:15 a.m. at Henry Hudson Park at Kappock St. and Independence Ave.2. 8:30 a.m. at the Woodlawn Metro North Station/Muskrat Cove3. 9:00 a.m. at the Metro North Station of the New York Botanical Gardens4. 10:00 a.m. at the Bronx County Courthouse Building at 161 St. and the Grand Concourse

Participants say the event motivates them to use their bike as their regular mode of transportation. They also say spectators are key to the success of the event. They invite everyone to come out and support them. The rain date for the event is Sunday, October 26.
