Parents say water fountains at P.S. 340 have not worked since last year

Parents say their kids have not been able to use water fountains at P.S. 340.

Although the school is relatively new, parents say broken pipes and a faulty water filtration system have left their kids without water. Edith Peprah, the PTA president, says it's not fair that parents have to shell out money for their kids to get something to drink when there should be water available.

Some parents say they only learned of the problem just last week at a PTA meeting, making them even angrier that they were kept in the dark. Right now, the PTA spends close to $300 a month to buy bottled water for the students. But some parents say free water should be available so that the money could be used for more important things like schoolbooks.

Parents claim they have complained to school officials, but each time they were told the problem is being worked on.
