Eastchester residents fed up with the illegal activity happening in their area

Some residents in Eastchester say prostitution is a problem in the area.

Mark Gonzalez recently bought a home in Eastchester thinking it would be a safe place to raise his daughter. He says when he bought his home he was not aware that only a few blocks away a hot bed of prostitution exists. He says sometimes when he is out with his 5-year-old daughter he finds condoms on the street and she asks what they are.

Other residents who live near Steenwick Avenue, which is a fairly deserted area, say they too are sick of the illegal activity happening at all hours of the day. Leticia Gonzalez says whether it is morning or night, you can see prostitutes walking the streets.

District Manager Carmen Angueira says city officials are trying to develop and improve the area. Currently, developers are building a warehouse and homes in the area, which residents say should make it harder for prostitutes to work.
