Beth Abraham Health Services offers a unique program for seniors with dementia

Beth Abraham Health Services new program offers help to seniors with dementia.

The program is called Club Daisy, which stands for Dementia, Activities, Independence, Socialization and You. About 50 elderly Bronx residents take part in the program.

One of the unique aspects of Club Daisy is its use of music to help increase patients' focus and attention. A nursing attendant at Club Daisy says a number of the patients who come to the program end up becoming more alert and participating in activities more. Club Daisy is also one of the only facilities with a fiber optic machine that helps relax patients suffering from dementia.

Approximately 1.9 million Americans have some form of dementia, which is a loss of memory and judgment. Alzheimer's disease is the most common form of dementia.
