3-year-old Bronx boy undergoes surgery after being attacked by a dog

A 3-year-old boy who was attacked by a dog had to have reconstructive surgery Wednesday.

Elijah Torres was attacked by a rottweiler while he was walking with his mother on O'Brien Avenue in Soundview. His mom tried to fight the dog off but was unable to. With the help of two neighbors, the animal was subdued.

Torres was taken to Jacobi Medical Center with bite wounds to his head, face and neck. He is currently in stable condition after having surgery, but it is not clear whether he sustained any long-term damage.

Right now, it is uncertain if the owner of the rottweiler will face any criminal charges.
