Bronx residents speak up against Williamsbridge shelter

Williamsbridge residents continued their protest over the opening of a new homeless shelter Thursday night. It was standing room only at the Community 12 meeting where Bronx residents had lots of questions for Homes for the Homeless representatives. Among those questions were whether residents are being asked if they want the shelter or are being told there will be a shelter.Representatives for the shelter said they have not yet purchased 946 East 211th Street, the proposed site for the shelter. The board though, voted against the homeless shelter being built there. Opponents said they will work together with the group to find an alternative location. Bronx residents said they will continue the fight against the proposed location, and also inform other communities about the possibility of a shelter moving into their neighborhood.Bronx residents said they would rather see the abandoned building turned into a condominium.
