Tips to keep kids in the Bronx safe while trick-or-treating

Halloween is a fun time for kids and adults so make sure it's a safe one.

Picking out costumes, getting dressed up and trick-or-treating are all part of what makes Halloween a fun holiday for all ages. But with the fun comes issues of safety, especially for those who have children.

According to the National Safety Council, there are a few tips that parents should keep in mind before sending their kids out to trick-or-treat.Buy a fire proof or fire retardant costumeAvoid masks that cover your child's eyesMake sure your child has a flashlightMake sure an adult or responsible teenager chaperonesKnow the route the trick-or-treaters are takingTell kids to never enter a stranger's home and to only go to well lit homes or apartment buildingsTell kids not to eat any candy until they are homePlace a piece of paper with your child's name, address and phone number in a pocket
