Bronx residents may want to think twice about using the popular herb Litargirio

The Food and Drug Administration is warning consumers that a popular home remedy may be dangerous to their health.

Litargirio is a yellow or peach colored powder that is widely used in Dominican communities for such things as treating wounds and foot funguses. It is sold in the Bronx in bodegas and botanicals.

But the FDA says Litargirio may be putting people at risk for lead poisoning since it contains about 80 percent lead. The FDA is urging anyone who uses the powder to stop immediately and get tested for lead poisoning.

The FDA also says that Litargirio has no proven benefits. Click here for more on the FDA's warning.
