Bronx seniors protest potential cuts to Meals on Wheels program

Dozens of seniors took to the steps of City Hall to protest possible cuts to Meals on Wheels.

Thousands of senior citizens in the Bronx rely on the Meals on Wheels program as a way to not only get a meal, but also as a way to get companionship. But the program is now being threatened by cutbacks at the Department of Aging. Officials from the Department of Aging say they may have to make cuts to the program because the agency has to save money as part of a citywide initiative.

Both homebound seniors and those who attend senior centers would be affected by the potential cuts. The seniors hope that by rallying at City Hall the message of how important Meals on Wheels is gets across to city officials.
