Woman struck and killed while crossing street in Pelham Bay

Bronx residents remain concerned about their safety after a woman is killed crossing the street.

Although officials say there has been a decrease in pedestrian deaths and injuries this year, residents say they are still worried especially after this latest accident. Witnesses say a woman was struck and killed by a van while crossing Middletown Road near Crosby Avenue.

Pelham Bay residents say Monday's incident highlights a problem that they have been complaining about for some time. They say there's a lack of traffic enforcement in the area and that cars often speed down the streets. Residents also claim pedestrians do not always have enough time to get across intersections.

Police are investigating the accident to determine what went wrong.
