Time for Bronx residents to pay up
According to a new report by the Citizens Budget Commission, New York residents pay about 70 percent more in taxes than the national average.
The commission used figures from the year 2000 and came to the conclusion that for every $1,000 in income, New Yorkers pay an average of $73 in taxes. The national average is $43 in taxes for every $1,000 in income.
The report cites the state Medicaid system, a lack of state funding for schools and the rising cost of government pensions for the high taxes.
