New report states school parent coordinators are not making the grade
(11/16/03) FORDHAM - A new report finds many parent coordinators, responsible for addressing the concerns of Bronx parents, are not doing their jobs.
Each of the coordinators has a cell phone so Bronx parents can ask questions in the evening hours. But a study released Sunday by the public advocate found over two-thirds of those called citywide did not answer their phones after business hours. Also, more than half of them never returned calls when messages were left. Officials did note, however, that those coordinators who did pick up the phone were knowledgeable and friendly.
Coordinators in the Bronx were the most reachable of all five boroughs, but they were ranked last at responding to messages.
In many cases, there is only one parent coordinator responsible for Bronx schools with more than 1,000 students.
