Subway service restored after police investigate suspicious package in the BX

Service was halted on the Number 2, 4 and 5 lines Monday after someone called 911 about a suspicious package.

Police and firefighters immediately shut down subway service from about 180th Street to 125th Street in Manhattan after receiving a call about a suspicious package at the 14th Street and Grand Concourse train station in the Bronx.

Service was suspended for about an hour stranding many commuters and forcing others to take the bus.

According to a firefighter at the scene, the package was hard to identify because it had a lot of tape around it. One construction worker who was at the station said things like this happen from time to time, but instead of getting rattled he feels better knowing that police and firefighters shut everything down to investigate.
