Youth conference held at Hostos Community College

A youth conference was held at Hostos Community College on Saturday to help teens deal with abusive relationships. Bronx youth organizations took part in the conference, giving workshops on identifying healthy gender roles and the importance of self-esteem.

Studies show violence is on the rise. Statistics say 60 to 96 percent of all teens experience verbal, emotional or psychological abuse while dating. Teens and organizers at the conference say they're grateful to have a chance to speak about this sensitive subject. Organizers are already planning next year's conference.

The conference also served as a kickoff event for the "Bronx Youth Network," which is a youth-led organization aiming to bring awareness of abuse while dating in the borough.
