Police investigating bias vandalism in Riverdale
A Bronx organization is denouncing a series of alleged hate crimes in their neighborhood. Now police are investigating one of them as a possible bias crime.
Police say vandals spraypainted bias statements in front of 3188 Riverdale Avenue Saturday. The Coalition for Jewish Concerns says the graffiti is a symbol of a Greek terrorist organization. The leader of the coalition says it makes him angry and sad that those are the thoughts and feelings of some of the people who may live in the community.
Two other buildings were vandalized the same way this past week. One at a coffee shop on 236 Street and Johnson Avenue, and the other on the side of a hair salon on 236 Street and Riverdale Avenue.
Police are investigating several other possible bias incidents. They say 38 cars were vandalized in Brooklyn in just one week. And a swastika was carved into the door of a Queens synagogue. Bronx residents say they hope police will take the Bronx incidents just as seriously as the others.
