Activists angry over demolition of community gardens in the South Bronx

Community activists are upset over the loss of six gardens in the South Bronx.

In Melrose, residents are fighting to prevent more community gardens from being bulldozed in order to make way for city housing projects. A few weeks ago, one area garden was demolished so that the city could go ahead and build 10 three-family homes.

Activists say the gardens are being lost because of the city's agreement to use 50 Bronx community gardens to build city housing.

The residents are reaching out for help to Bronx leaders. They say the gardens are needed.
