Bronx and city landlords required to keep apartments at certain temperature

As the temperatures dip down, landlords are required to keep apartments heated.

Tenants should know that if it's cold outside, it shouldn't be cold in their apartments. According to the NYC Department of Housing, Preservation and Development, by law during the day if it's below 55 degrees outside, the temperature inside should be at least 68 degrees. At night if the temperature outside is below 40 degrees, it must be at least 55 degrees inside.

Officials say if tenants are not getting heat, they should first call the building superintendent. If that does not work then call building management. If tenants still get no help they should contact 311 and HPD will be sent to inspect the building.
