Laid off city sanitation workers to be rehired before Christmas

NYC Department of Sanitation announced that more than 200 workers will get their jobs back.

The workers lost their jobs in May due city budget cuts. But the department says it has since been paying more in overtime for garbage collection.

The department says workers can expect to have their jobs back before Christmas. There are also plans to hire more than 160 new workers by the spring to help fill jobs vacated by people retiring.
