NYPD statistics show crime is down in the Bronx
NYPD statistics show the Bronx is the only borough to see decreases in all major crime areas.
According to the NYPD, crime is down by more than 11 percent from last year. Compared with statistics from 10 years ago, crime is down more than 60 percent.
As for crime in specific areas, the 43rd Precinct had the biggest decrease in murders citywide. The precinct covers Soundview, Castlehill and Parkchester. Last year, there were 23 murders in those areas and this year there's only been nine. And the 44th Precinct had the biggest decrease in all categories.
The borough commander, who has only been in office two months, says the results are due to having motivated officers on the streets and an increased police presence in high crime areas.
