Landlords must turn heat up during cold days and nights
Although winter is still officially two weeks away, the temperatures have dipped below the freezing mark on several occasions. Bronx residents are reminded that laws require landlords to keep apartments heated during cold days and nights.
During the day, if the mercury dips below 55 degrees outside, it must be at least 68 degrees inside homes. At night, between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., apartments must be at least 55 degrees if the outside temperature is 40 degrees or lower.
Tenants who have problems with their heat are urged to call their landlord. Any landlord that does not obey the heat rules can be reported to the city by calling 311.
