Long security lines at some Bronx schools improving

Students at several Bronx schools were missing class because of long security lines.

Since the beginning of the school year, News 12 The Bronx has been following the story of long security lines at a number of Bronx schools. Students and parents complained about lines at Richard Green Middle School, Evander Childs, Lehman, Monroe and Walton High School.

A few months ago, students at those schools were waiting anywhere from 20 minutes to two hours to get into school. Some even complained that they were missing classes.

But on Tuesday, News 12 The Bronx found that the lines improved. Students only had to wait about five to 10 minutes to be cleared through security.

A spokesperson for the Department of Education says keeping students safe is a number one priority. The spokesperson also said that lines are moving quicker due to having an adequate amount of school safety officers.
