Parents voice concerns about traffic dangers near P.S. 8

Parents say to get their kids to and from P.S. 8 can be dangerous.

Yamileth Martinez is one of dozens of Bronx parents who gathered outside the school Wednesday to let representatives from the Department of Transportation know how bad the situation is around the school. Martinez even called the area a racetrack.

Part of the problem is that the school is located near the busy Mosholu Parkway. Parents say cars don't slow down when they are trying to cross with their kids. Instead of cars giving the right of way to pedestrians, parents say it is the other way around.

There are stop signs on the roads surrounding the school, but the parents claim that has not done enough to improve the situation.

Parents want to see more crossing guards, and they want the DOT to install speed bumps or traffic lights. If their concerns are not addressed, the parents plan to take their fight to City Hall.
