Bronx middle school student arrested for shooting a blank from a prop gun

P.S. 220 teachers and students got a scare Wednesday after hearing a shot fired inside.

Worried parents picked up their children Wednesday following word that a shot rang out earlier in the school day. According to the Department of Education, a 13-year-old student fired a blank from a prop gun on the fourth floor. The student was arrested and two others were questioned in connection with the incident.

Parents say they were shocked by the news because security at the school seems to be good. Although some parents were surprised others said schools have to be ready for anything. Parents were also concerned that even though the gun was fake they are worried that it got through security.

Department of Education officials say the school's principal is available if parents have questions. Letters regarding the incident were sent home to parents.
