Bronx businesses say too many street vendors are adding unwanted competition
Some Bronx storeowners say business is not booming this holiday season. They say too many street vendors are adding unwanted competition.
During the busiest shopping time of the year, some commercial areas in The Bronx are jammed with street vendors. Vendors are taking advantage of the fact that they're allowed to set up shop and sell goods on any street in The Bronx.
A state law that restricted table size and placement has expired. Some Bronx businesses owners say the added competition and the loss of space are both big problems.
The law expired in March, but the assembly hasn't been able to reach a new agreement. With Christmas right around the corner, Mayor Bloomberg reportedly says it's the NYPDs job to step in when too many vendors force shoppers into the streets.
