Bronx leaders looking to bring more banks to the area to spark economic growth
Bronx community leaders are working to bring more banks to the borough.
Banks throughout the Bronx are often too crowded and are plagued by long lines. Some Bronx officials have recognized that there is a shortage of banks in parts of the borough and are looking to do something about it.
Madeline Marquez, of the Borough President's Initiative Corporation, says banks tend to be attracted only to commercial areas in the borough, which leaves some neighborhoods with few options for banking.
Officials are hoping to have banks every 10 to 15 blocks to make banking easier for residents. The Initiative Corporation believes that bringing more banks to the area will help stimulate the economy.
