Bronx residents could pay at least $90 more for heat this winter than last

(12/21/03) THROGS NECK - The cost of heat in the Bronx is rising according to a report from Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY). The senator's report states Bronx residents could pay at least $90 more for heat this winter than last season.

The potential rise would be due to rising natural gas and oil costs. The cost to the entire borough could top $18.5 million. Higher heating costs would force some homeowners in the Bronx to make sacrifices.

Senator Schumer says he is not sure why natural gas prices are rising. He believes it might be because of price manipulation, and he is calling for an investigation of the matter.

Any Bronx resident having a heat problem is urged to call News 12 The Bronx's heat hotline number at (718) 861-6831. Before calling, dial 311 to file a complaint with city officials. They will give out a complaint number. Have that number ready when calling News 12 The Bronx's heat hotline.
