Traffic halted on the Throgs Neck for hours due to police investigation

Traffic was backed up for hours on the Throgs Neck while police searched for an alleged car thief.

According to police, the suspect abandoned a vehicle on the bridge and then tried to escape by jumping into the water. He swam to the docks near the entrance to the Throgs Neck Bridge and then ran through some yards in the area where police caught him.

One witness says his daughter told him there was a man running through the backyard and then police.

The incident forced the bridge to be closed down twice.
