Abandoned home in Pelham Bay to be demolished, two new homes to be built

(12/27/03)PELHAM BAY - Community leaders say the building of two new homes in Pelham Bay symbolizes victory for residents in that neighborhood.

Community Board Ten says when the ASPCA rescued dozens of allegedly abused dogs on 3160 Ampere Avenue last March, residents thought the conditions of the home would get better. But instead the abandoned home brought vandals and even more garbage to the block. The community board's district manager says a developer has purchased the lot and will be building two new homes on the property.

Community Board Ten says the house is expected to be demolished within the next two weeks. Builders want to start construction as soon as possible.
