Pear Tree Mall putting the brakes on illegal parking
Bronx residents looking for a parking spot because of garage closings might have lost one option. The management of the Pear Tree Shopping Mall is reportedly fed up with the amount of cars being parked there. The mall leased 300 spots to the city to make up for lost space when some garages closed for repairs. Only residents with special red permits are allowed to park in the lot. But it's been so full lately that Sheila Tejada can't find a spot. Tejada has one of the 300 permits which is supposed to guarantee a spot.Mall employees are also upset. They said they are supposed to have parking privileges. Some said now they are forced to search for a spot like everyone else. The rules have been in place for months, but sources said the mall's management will start to enforce the rules. The mall said it will now tow cars that are parked illegally. It could cost up to $200 to get your car back if it's towed.
