Report finds Highbridge and Morrisania have high number of deaths
A recent study shows the death rate in two Bronx areas is far worse than the rest of the city.
Health department officials found that Highbridge and Morrisania have a high death rate with the number one cause of death being heart disease. One possible reason is smoking.
According to health officials, more people light up in those two sections of the Bronx than the city's average. Health officials say the good news is that a large percentage of smokers say they have tried to quit in the last year.
Also contributing to the high death rate is AIDS, which is the third leading cause of death in Highbridge and Morrisania. Health officials say more people need to get tested regularly. They also feel educating people and making them more aware of how the disease is spread is key.
