Bronx family says son was involved in capture of Saddam Hussein

(01/05/04) THE WEBSTER HOUSES - A United States Army Private from the Bronx is being called a hero for his role in the capture of Saddam Hussein.

According to his family, Private First Class Jeans Cruz was directly involved in the December 14 capture of the former Iraqi leader. They say they learned about it through a call from a U.S. official at the Pentagon on Christmas Eve. Cruz's parents say the official also told them Jeans was the only Hispanic soldier involved in the capture. Cruz would not give his family exact details of what he did because it is confidential, but he did give a description of the former dictator.

Private Cruz is expected to return to his Bronx home in March.
