Longwood blaze destroys businesses, causes minor firefighter injuries
Flames in Longwood destroyed businesses and brought dozens of firefighters to the South Bronx neighborhood early Tuesday morning. The blaze started at a grocery store on the corner of Leggitt and Beck streets. For a while, firefighters had it contained. But it then turned into a two-alarm fire and spread to four nearby businesses. Three people who lived and worked in the adjacent Chinese restaurant were evacuated.It took about an hour and a half to put to fire out completely. More than 60 firefighters responded to the blaze; two of them were treated for minor injuries.Firefighters are continuing to investigate the cause of the fire. Officials say at this time it looks suspicious.
