Fordham day care center shut down due to frigid conditions inside

Parents who take their kids to the St. James Park Day Care Center and School arrived Monday to find the doors locked.

The city's Department of Health forced the day care center to close because of the frigid temperatures inside the building. Parents say they have had to send their kids to the center dressed in layers and in some cases the kids have even had to wear their gloves inside.

The center takes care of kids from infancy to age 6. And last year, the center was closed for the same reason. The problem stems from an ongoing dispute between the church and the day care center as to who is responsible for fixing the heating system.

Parents say they are simply frustrated and have started looking elsewhere for day care.

Meanwhile, both church officials and day care officials say they have their own maintenance workers coming to look at the problem. There's no word as to when the heating system will be fixed.
